DEAD KENNEDYS Announce 25th Anniversary Show In Los Angeles
July 30, 2003Seminal punk rock band DEAD KENNEDYS announced Tuesday (July 29) that they will celebrate their 25th Anniversary with a show at the Key Club in Los Angeles on Tuesday, August 19, 2003. Opening for DEAD KENNEDYS will be punk legends DR. KNOW.
To further celebrate a quarter century as a band, DEAD KENNEDYS will take part in a DVD signing at Tower Records Sunset Strip (8601 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, CA) on Monday, August 18 at 7:00 p.m. Original band members East Bay Ray, Klaus Flouride and D.H. Peligro will be signing copies of their latest DVD, "In God We Trust, Inc. – The Lost Tapes", recently released by Music Video Distributors. The first 100 fans to purchase the DVD at the signing will also receive a complimentary ticket to the 25th Anniversary Key Club show the following night.
"It's hard to believe, but it's been 25 years since we played our very first show at the legendary Mabuhay Gardens in San Francisco on July 19, 1978," said Flouride. "We never thought we would be here 25 years later, headlining the Key Club with a brand new DVD of archival footage, which is something our fans are going to love."
"Since getting our catalog back in 2001 and reissuing & remastering it on Manifesto Records, we also came across a lot of material we didn't even remember existed," said Ray. " 'In God We Trust, Inc. – The Lost Tapes' is a great document of the original recording of this record. This DVD has some amazing footage of us recording the original EP."
On June 19, 1981, DEAD KENNEDYS recorded the EP "In God We Trust, Inc." at Subterranean Studios in San Francisco. When the band went to master the recording, the tapes began to peel and deteriorate. Subsequently, the band had to re-record the entire EP at Mobius Studios in San Francisco on August 22, 1981.
It is this version recorded at Mobius that was used for the final EP and gained international acclaim and notoriety. The original version recorded at Subterranean has never seen the light of day…until now.
"In God We Trust – The Lost Tapes" captures the band in Subterranean Studios recording their masterpiece, and includes full-length versions of every song including some "making of" footage and banter between bandmates. The master audio tapes have been "baked" (a process that restores aging or damaged analog tape),resulting in a magnificent audio visual documentation of the DEAD KENNEDYS recording a landmark album.
In addition to the studio recordings, each song from the album has an alternate live version. The live footage spans their career, from a 1979 performance of "We've Got a Bigger Problem Now" through the second-to-last performance with Jello Biafra in 1986 of "Moral Majority".
